Reading and Writing for People with a Mild Intellectual Disability


This course is designed for those with a disability who would like to be better equipped to live in a world with words and numbers. Please note that carers are required to support their students during the class.

This class includes the nationally recognised accredited unit of competency FSKOCM003 Participate in familiar spoken interactions at work.

Target Audience:

Suitable for people with a mild intellectual disability who wish to build their reading, writing, communicating, and numeracy skills.

Please contact the College upon enrolment if you will require any accommodations or feel there is anything our staff should be aware of to ensure that you enjoy your learning experience.

This class utilises NSW government funding (ACE). Australian and New Zealand citizens and permanent residents, or those who hold a humanitarian or refugee visa are eligible for funding. Please contact the College to discuss.

Learning Methods:

This is a face-to-face class running for 8 weeks with class one day a week.

New class dates for Term 3 will be available in June.

Content:

  • Identifying audiences and situations
  • Identifying what information needs to be communicated
  • Using oral communication skills
  • Interacting using simple grammar, familiar vocabulary and pronunciation
  • Using non-verbal communication methods
