Job Interviews Demystified

Description

This one-day workshop is designed to help people looking for jobs to be better prepared and confident about attending their next job interview. It starts with the preparation and looks at all aspects of job interviews. Things like dress, body language tips, and some insight on the interview not always being about the person being interviewed. The interviewer/company is also on show and we talk about this during the workshop. There will also be an opportunity for role play to practice being interviewed in a safe environment.

for 1 Day

Topics Covered include:

1. Introductions from myself and the course participants (depending on what they want to share) Overview of the course (what will be covered) Feedback if students want to cover something that I have not included in the material. 2. A slide of bullets that will prompt discussion about what employers think of job interviews and what they want to get out of it. Obviously a successful applicant but there is more to it sometimes Ie the employer may be looking to replace someone who was been walked, resigned or retired. There may or may not be a handover. It may be a new position making the successful candidate having to make things happen for the first time as there is no precedent. 3. Why is there a job search going on. eg out of work, changing jobs, want to transition to retirement, looking for ‘promotion’ but not getting anywhere where you are etc What does the seeker want in a job. What job market are they targeting and why. What are reasons they are chasing the job that they are. The job they interview for needs to be for the right reasons. We will explore that. 4. We will talk about being prepared. Researching the employer beyond the company and job description and details in the Seek add. We will cover things like Dress codes, body language, punctuality, their interest expressed through eye contact, questions, interacting with the interviewer(s). We will also cover the location of the interview. Do they know where to go. Don’t want to get lost or let public transport make you late! Sometimes there is more than one person there. How to handle multiple interviewers and potential with questions coming from different people with different agendas in mind. Finally we will run some roleplay of being in a job interview looking at potential scenarios that they may be exposed to.
