Winter Slumber to Spring Transformation. Learn how to create and care for bonsai. This term you will focus on growing habits of Cotoneaster, Pyracantha, Fruit & Flowering species. Make some accent plants and repot your trees in class. Create a Landscape style bonsai.

Topics Covered include:
1. Bonsai basics, what tools are required. discuss Pots to use in bonsai. size, color, depth. 2. Different species suitable for bonsai, learn when to repot, how to prune, wiring. bending, flower and fruit and fertilising needs. advantage of garden digs 3. Learn the format for slanting style, where to use slanting style trees. make soe-accent plants for landscapes 4. Demonstrate techniques of wiring branches trunks, bending. discuss when to remove wire and what to do when it is too late. 5. Different species, prunus,malus,, how to prune to develop good ramification, pinching and wiring techniques, when to repot, water, fertilise for fruit and flower 6. Students to learn about the landscape and saikei style. how to create a good imitation. which species are suitable, and how to wire and prune. 7. Student to repot and create SOE 8. Students to learn about elements of saikei, moss, rock, water, mountains 9. a weekend trip to select material.
Student will learn which species are suitable for bonsai and how to care for, and maintain trees during Winter. Students can repot trees during this term, and learn about preparation for Spring growth.
On the first session bring
if students have a potted tree, or a bonsai, to bring to class, with tools, wire. If they are beginners, bring a display folder as course notes will be supplied. No requirements first class
Items to be purchased during the course
students will purchase tools, wire, plants, pots, soil. some material supplied, suitable vendors will be provided.
