| Sewing for Beginners to Intermediate
Many people who havent used their sewing machine for a while will have difficulty in getting it running again. If you have never used a sewing machine and wanting to buy one. Come along and use the college machines. This is a good way to figure out what you need it for and get advice before purchasing one. Confidence will be achieved with threading and basic maintenance advice. For intermediate sewers it is a great atmosphere to gain ideas from others and advance your creative skills. It is also inspiring to be among a group of like minded individuals and expand your knowledge.

Topics Covered include:
Threading the machine, sewing a straight line and curve, Trouble shooting possible malfunctions in machine. Choice of cutting out a tote bag or pin cushion. (pattern supplied) Assembly of tote bag or pin cushion. Putting in a zip, practice with buttonholes. How to gather. Applique sample. Experimenting with decorative features. Altering a pair of pyjama shorts commercial pattern. Sewing pyjama shorts and adding elastic. Help provided with the assembly of new project. Finishing projects. Discussion with in the group regarding finished projects.
Attendees should have more confidence in use of a sewing machine and be inspired to try new things.
On the first session bring
Note book/ scrap book. Lead pencil. Fabric scissors, , spare machine needle, 1 metre plain fabric, cotton reel to match, bobbin, pins. (Sewing kit if already have one) May bring own sewing machine if wanting to. College has sewing machines available. (may use scissors, pins and cotton from college supplies first day)
Items to be purchased during the course
Short zip for sample. Depending on what their enthusiasm centers on. I would encourage more tools and materials to be purchased over the time of the course. $30
