Description

Do you have a new sewing machine and can't work out the instructions? I will take the mystery out of the instruction book. Overlocking lessons are also included if you have an overlocker. If you need to alter bought garments, then I can help you adjust to a perfect fit. This course is designed for students wishing to upgrade their proficiency, or learn new techniques and beginners are also very welcome. The students are always very friendly and helpful to each other.

Topics Covered include:

Introductions, know how to measure body, compare to pattern sizing, cut paper patterns, and adjust patterns, layout of pattern on fabric, cut fabric and cut notches. All students work on individual projects, so progress will be at different levels, according to ability and prior knowledge. Students will learn how to pin garment pieces together, sew and finish seams. Demonstration by tutor on the correct hem levelling. This needs to be done by a second party, as not possible to do on oneself. Hem finishes in preparation for machine or hand sewn hem. Repeat of Session 1. Repeat of session 2 Repeat of session 3.

Course Outcome

Students will be able to take their own measurements, adjust commercial patterns, do a layout of pattern on fabric, fit garment and use a sewing machine.

On the first session bring

Commercial pattern ( in correct size) , paper scissors, Fabric scissors, Fabric ( pre washed if it is cotton), thread to match fabric, tape measure, pins, Notepad & pencil. If zip required, can be purchased later. Machine needles if working on a very fine fabric. Universal needles are supplied with the College's machines. Power points.

Once the first garment is finished, purchase more fabric & notions for the next garment.
